After experiencing Saturday’s events it became clear that those wonderful children were teaching me life-skills too!

Sisanda Carnival

Sisanda’s Connect programme aims to connect young volunteers from local high schools with beneficiary children from junior schools in underprivileged communities. We deliver our programme by working closely with a group of young volunteers to plan, fundraise and deliver a mini FunDay.

12 Students from Wynberg Girls & Boys Interact Committee spent over 4 hours of planning sessions, working with the Sisanda team to design a themed FunDay for their beneficiary School, Capricorn Primary.

Working with the theme of Sisanda Carnival, the Interact committee were inspired to create 8 activities that they could manage throughout the Connect event, along with a sweet stall, photo booth, popcorn machine & ice breaker games.

On Saturday 1st July, we were extremely excited to welcome 15 learners from Capricorn Primary School, to work with 30 young volunteers at Wynberg Boys High School. Thank you Mr Inglis for arranging the hall for us, it was such a fantastic space to work in!

With support from our fantastic Activity Leaders Babs & Thuli, we paired each volunteer with a child for the day, before welcoming the group together with songs and dancing.

Once the hall was filled with fun, laughter and music, we were able to start our set games and activities including: Hula hooping, bowling, musical chairs, obstacle race, face painting and much more! Each activity was supported by our wonderfully smiley volunteers Noelene & Em-J.

For each activity that the children participated in, they were awarded ‘Funny Money’ that they could then spend at our magical sweet stall, with all sweets donated by the girls from Wynberg Girls High School – thank you!

Our day of fun didn’t stop there, after each group had participated in each activity, the hall turned into a children’s party with music, disco lights, popcorn and balloons!

When we thought the day couldn’t get any better, our Butler arrived delivering delicious pizzas, it was the first time in the day that everyone was sitting down and quiet! A huge thank you to Butlers Pizza for sponsoring our lunch, we needed that extra boost of energy to finish the day.

Thank you to the HCI Foundation for sponsoring our transport with Golden Arrow, you enable us to access the children and bring them out of their communities to enjoy our Connect events.

Thank you to PEP Stores for sponsoring our Connect event, Wynberg Boys High School for their hall space and the fabulous goodie bags, Wynberg Girls for donating sweets and finally to the Interact Committee for planning and delivering a day to remember.
