Fire Station and Rush

Blazing Jumpers!

On Saturday, 7 May we hosted 40 very smart and funny children from two beneficiary sites in Hout Bay - Bright Start and Ikhaya Lethemba. The day started off with our amazing volunteers arriving bright and early to board the Golden Arrow Bus (sponsored by the HCI Foundation) to set off to Hout Bay to collect the children. There was an excited buzz in the air when we arrived at Bright Start and all the children quickly lined up to get their brightly coloured Sisanda t-shirts! Debbie, the Education Programme Manager spoke to the volunteers about the organisation as well as the children who form a part of it and it was truly inspiring!

We headed off to the Central Fire Station in Roeland Street and as always we were met with smiles from Commander Swanepoel and his firefighting team. There was an educational talk and demonstration on fire safety which had everyone involved, dropping and rolling and screaming for help! A great lesson in learning about what to do in an emergency. After the 'serious' side was over, everyone had an opportunity to flex their muscles and spray the fire hoses, aiming for the top of the tallest building! Afterwards we all went for a ride in the firetrucks and that in itself was a memorable moment! Thank you to Jena Theron for baking a delicious 'thank you' cake for the firefighters - they most certainly deserved it!

With all the excitement of the morning, we were ready to eat! As always, Nadia and her staff at the Rodeo Spur in Claremont treated us like royalty and we had a delicious meal and a yummy ice cream treat to top off the lunch!

With tummies full, everyone was ready for their next adventure! An hour of pure jumping joy! There were foam pits and trampolines and dodge ball and determined little jumpers braving the dive boards! It was an awesome sensory experience! Thank you to Olive Grove Restaurant in Brighton, UK for sponsoring this part of the Fun Day - it was awesome!

Thank you to all our volunteers and sponsors for making the day possible: HCI Foundation, National Lottery Commission, Spur Foundation and Truworths - your continued support is appreciated!
