After experiencing Saturday’s events it became clear that those wonderful children were teaching me life-skills too!

Fit Footy Fun Day

On Saturday the 18th of May, Sisanda FunDaytion and a large group of youth from the Sozo Foundation in Vrygrond set out to up our football skills during our Fit Footy Fun Day. The Sozo Foundation has been formed out of a sincere desire to serve the communities of Vrygrond, Lavender Hill and the surrounding areas. Through personal relationships they have been exposed to some of the core needs of vulnerable children and their families in these areas. Through 3 main projects (Sozo Eden, Sozo Boutique and Sozo Educentre)  the Sozo Foundation works with the community to heal, uplift and restore. The children that accompanied us on this day have been part of the Sozo Educentre this year- an educational programme  that provides a safe space 3 times per week for young high school students to be equipped and empowered through education.

After a delicious lunch at the Golden Feather Spur in Vangate Mall, we set off for Vygieskraal Stadium where we played footy, ran races and generally enjoyed being outdoors in the perfect weather with the stadium all to ourselves. We arrived at Athlone Stadium ready to cheer for Ajax CT for the  3:00pm match vs Golden Arrows. Waving flags, honking vuvuzelas and cheering along with the brass band we let Ajax know that Sisanda FunDaytion was cheering them on. We were more than delighted when Ajax CT won the game 3 nil!
