Inverdoorn Game Reserve, Ceres

High 5 to the Big 5!

We were so thrilled to have been invited to Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Ibiza Safari Lodge on Saturday 28 September 2013. Izandla Zethemba's 12- 18 year old kids and the Sisanda FunDaytion team packed up and embarked on a day trip to have a real adventure in the Ceres Karoo! The wide open pleins of Inverdoorn Game Reserve under blue, blue spring-time skies took our breath away.

After 3 hours travel, playing various games and getting to know one-another in the bus, we arrived to a lunch buffet beautifully set up underneath a tent, all ready for our hungry tummies. Afterwards, we boarded our open-top bakkies, met our trusty game drive guides and set off to see the sights and the Big 5.

We saw cheetahs, elephants and giraffe along with a herd of zebra, some red lechwes and some white-tailed gnus. A few lucky (and especially well-behaved) kids got to visit the tame young rhinos and were amazed that they could actually say hi up close and even touch them!

Our volunteers and children were equally blown away by this 'once in a lifetime' trip and we all felt we learned so much about Africa, animal conservation and the animals themselves. I know the children left with a completely different view about how important our wildlife is. To quote our guide, Alex, 'You children are the future and education is the key to saving these endangered animals.'

Special thanks to our sponsors for this day: Damian Vergnaud and the team at Inverdoorn, Truworths, Afrozaar and Aggora.
