Muizenberg Beach

Thandolwethu Children's Home

Midweek Beach Bonanza!

Woweeeeee! There's nothing like heading to the beach on a weekday! And what a day it was!

On Wednesday, the 14th of December, Sisanda FunDaytion and Media24 partnered up to have some fun in the sun and create a memorable outing for 20 children of Thandolwethu Home. The home is situated in an informal settlement in Khayelitsha. It is in a small area of Site C, called RR section which is near the railway line before you get to Nolungile train station. The home is called Thandolwethu, which means "Our Love" in Xhosa.

What made this an even extra special day, was that none of these children had been to the beach before. Could you imagine that? Not ever feeling the cool sea breeze against your cheek, the tingle of the sand between your toes and the rush of cold water from the waves. Neither could we, so off we went to Muizenberg Beach!

The day was filled with activities, competitions, educational sessions about sea life and what it takes to become a life guard - Baywatch here we come! Watching the enthusiasm from each of the children was inspiring and it seemed their energy was boundless - jumping up and down, screaming and singing and swimming and playing! Their colourful spirits were matched by the bright and beautiful t-shirts, sponsored by Truworths, which is always a wonderful keepsake from the day.

After all the excitement, stomachs were grumbling and so we were all treated to a delicious lunch at Spur in the Blue Route Mall. But the fun never stopped there! The Media24 Human Resources (HR) team, surprised the children with Christmas gifts. But, there was more! Not only did the Media24 team buy Christmas gifts, they went the extra mile by making sure that every child had a full school uniform to wear when they started class in the New Year.

Sisanda FunDaytion is always proud to partner with people who help make our work more valuable in the communities.

Thank you again to Media24, Truworths, the HCI Foundation as well as the Spur Foundation for respecting our work and always supporting us to make our vision a reality.
