Fabulous Fun Days

2012 was an excellent year for
our Fun Day programme -with the achievement of 14 successful Fun Days,
taking  us over the  half century Fun Day mark! When we look back on
all the FUN we had during last year there are a few Fun Days that were firsts
for our team. During the beginning of the year, we had our first Fun Day
fostering leadership within young volunteers. Teenagers from ‘VolksKerk van
Afrika’ looked after younger children playing putt-putt and swimming in
Muizenburg pool. How heart-warming it was to watch young adults during their
first volunteer experience, taking it with full gusto.

In May
last year, we had two back-to-back Fun Days with students from Brockport
University in the USA. These students were on a Garden Route tour with Afrika
Safari Tours and dedicated two full days to dancing on the beach and exploring
the Green Point Park with children from Orphancare Foundation in Westlake and
 Emasithandane Children's Home in Nyanga. It was very clear that both
groups learnt a lot from each other and especially about the diverse cultures
which were so unfamiliar to them until this Day. 

celebrated Women’s Day with our Wonderful Women Fun Day with pre-teen and teen
girls from Vrygrond community. The Day was jam-packed with sessions that
included pampering, dress-up, a Spur lunch and Zumba dancing. Over high tea we
had a chance for the girls to interact with carefully selected Inspirational
women. The smaller groups had opportunities to learn more about pertinent
issues and to explore feelings and opinions about various topics such as
HIV, education, career counselling, empowering yourself through your decisions,
