Active Citizenship is Fuelling Sisanda FunDaytion's Mission

At Sisanda FunDaytion, active citizenship is a core pillar of our organisation. We pride ourselves in identifying and nurturing volunteers, young and old, who have a big heart, some time, passion, and something to share. The magic these individuals add to our world is immeasurable, and their contributions play a crucial role in keeping our mission alive and thriving.

Two remarkable examples of active citizenship of late have been our two #Steps4Smiles ambassadors: Nicky Seymour ran the Two Oceans ultra-marathon to raise awareness for Sisanda and put a spotlight on the importance of nurturing good mental health for children; and Chase Trusler’s Comrades ultra-marathon fundraiser, has not for the first time, helped us raise much-needed funding.

Chase Trusler: Running Comrades in the name of Resilience

They say that an endurance race is conquered with the mind. What better a race for Chase Trusler to run than the gruelling Comrades ultra-marathon, a 90km challenge. Despite the demands of immense physical and mental strength, this picture of Chase makes it look like he went for a stroll in the park.

His fundraiser for the #Steps4Smiles campaign, raised a whopping R10,936 for Sisanda FunDaytion. Chase is a employee of Omega Air who is a longstanding supporter of Sisanda FunDaytion. Omega Air, together with Chase's family and friends, rallied to support Chase and to make this count for more children in South Africa. Chase’s journey not only provided crucial financial support but also highlighted the impact of connecting through play and nurturing an "I can'' attitude amongst children, youth and our entire volunteer network. We hope you’ve been inspired to join Chase on those hills in 2025!

Nicky Seymour: Steps for Smiles

Nicky Seymour, our co-Founder and CEO, dedicated her participation in the Two Oceans Ulta-Marathon to Sisanda FunDaytion’s 15th birthday, in our #Steps4Smiles campaign. Nicky's commitment went beyond just running; she poured her heart and soul into the race, turning her birthday into an opportunity to give back. Her determination and advocacy brought attention to the importance of mental health and development for children in Cape Town's Mannenberg and Gugulethu townships. By running the marathon, Nicky is showcasing the power of individual efforts in creating meaningful change.

Thank you, Nicky and Chase, for your incredible contributions. Your efforts remind us that individual actions can lead to extraordinary outcomes.
